Studio Stanley

Studio Stanley is the studio practice of George Stanley McGraw, a Los Angeles artist working with light, electricity and material. His electrified objects combine hand-bent glass and neon with materials including terracotta, acrylic, aluminum and chrome, occupying a space somewhere between sculpture and lighting.

George spent fifteen years working in water and energy infrastructure, including as Water & Power Commissioner for Los Angeles. That relationship to power—both as a physical force and a visible system—runs quietly through his work.

Studio Stanley explores light’s ability to alter our perception of objects and spaces: softening hard materials, making industrial components feel sensual, and turning electricity into an intimate physical experience. Works are handmade as unique pieces and small editions.
